Hi. My name is Eric Olson and I am the proprietor of Salem Wine Imports, a small wine shop in downtown Salem. I’ve enjoyed 35 years in the wine trade and when I considered retirement I wanted to make it 45, thus the wine shop. What I didn’t factor in was an increase from 35 to 60 hours of work per week. Oh well, its not physical, I’m not on route 128 , I don’t have a boss, and I’m surrounded by some of the most interesting and wonderful things on earth. I can manage, but I would love to have you visit, try some wines and join in our adventure.
Our philosophy is fairly simple in that wine is a common treasure available to all and the discovery and enjoyment of wine is a life enhancing pleasure almost without peer. Unique, singular, natural and rewarding, every glass can be thought provoking and contemplative or unassuming and unobtrusive as the mood may be.
At Salem Wine Imports, we have carefully selected wines that come from small producers who grow their own grapes and have been making wine for generations. We taste all wines before we purchase and refuse many. You will find few commercial brands here but instead wines that have a sense of place and tastes of the soil and region of its birth. Small, artesian where sometimes” faults” (as in deviating from the norm) are actually attributes making the wine unique and more enjoyable because of it.
Come visit, try some wines (we always have 8 available) and see for yourself what Thomas Jefferson, “good wine is a necessity of life for me” and. Plato, “Nothing more excellent or valuable than wine was ever granted by the Gods to man”... have in common.
